Project Overview
The brief was clear: deliver a complete electrical upgrade to support a newly refurbished technology classroom. The room would be used for practical lessons, requiring safe and robust power distribution for multiple high-load appliances.
This wasn’t a simple refresh; it involved a full redesign of the electrical infrastructure to meet current regulations and the specific demands of the space.
Scope of Work
We carried out a full installation from the ground up, ensuring every element met the latest standards and the school’s operational needs:
- Power supplies to 10 hobs
Each hob required a reliable and correctly rated supply. We installed dedicated circuits to ensure safe operation under continuous load, with careful attention to cable sizing and load balancing.
- New dedicated socket circuit
A separate circuit was introduced for general use sockets, reducing the risk of overload and improving overall system efficiency.
- Installation and connection of all appliances
From positioning to final connection, all appliances were installed and tested to ensure safe and correct operation.
- Consumer unit upgrade
The existing board was replaced with a modern 18th Edition compliant three-phase distribution board, complete with: - Individual RCBO protection for each circuit
- Integrated surge protection to safeguard sensitive equipment
This upgrade significantly improved both safety and fault isolation—minimising disruption in the event of an issue.
Challenges & Solutions
Working in a live school environment always requires careful planning. Scheduling was coordinated to minimise disruption to staff and students, and all work was completed efficiently within agreed timeframes.
Load management was another key consideration. With multiple high-demand appliances operating simultaneously, proper distribution across phases was essential. By balancing the load effectively, we ensured optimal performance and long-term reliability.
