High-Spec New Build Electrical Installation in Basingstoke – Full House Wiring, Solar & EV Charger

11 November 2025

We recently completed a high-spec new build electrical installation in Basingstoke, covering everything from the first fix to second fix on a large three-bedroom property featuring a gym, study, reception room, and an impressive open-plan kitchen diner.

This project was a complete full house wiring installation designed to complement the client’s modern design aesthetic while delivering practicality, efficiency, and a premium finish.

First & Second Fix Electrical Installation

From the first fix stage, we carried out a full electrical design and installation to meet the client’s layout and specification. During the second fix, attention to detail was key, ensuring every fitting and accessory aligned with the property’s contemporary design.

  • Full wiring throughout the property
  • Lighting and power circuits across all rooms
  • Dual load fuse boards installed for future flexibility and safety
  • Lux Knightsbridge matt white faceplates for a clean, minimal finish

Solar & Battery Storage System

To make the property more energy efficient, we installed a complete solar PV and battery storage system using high-quality components for long-term reliability and performance:

  • 10 × Longi HiMo5 HPB 410W All Black Mono Solar Panels
  • 1 × SolaX X1 G4 3.7D Hybrid Inverter
  • 1 × SolaX Triple Power 5.8kWh Battery (TP58 Primary)
  • AC/DC isolators, Emlite bi-directional meter, and energy monitoring equipment
  • GSE in-roof mounting system for a sleek, integrated appearance

This setup allows the homeowners to generate, store, and manage their own renewable energy, reducing grid reliance and energy bills.

EV Charger Installation – Ohme ePod

As part of the sustainable design, we installed an Ohme ePod EV charger, providing fast, reliable charging for electric vehicles. The system integrates seamlessly with the home’s solar and battery setup, allowing smart charging during off-peak hours or when surplus solar power is available.

Outdoor Lighting & Finishing Touches

To complete the project, we fitted outdoor lighting to enhance the property’s kerb appeal and improve security. All external fixtures were IP-rated for durability and weather resistance, while maintaining the same high-quality finish as the interior lighting.

A consumer unit, often referred to as a fuse box, is the heart of your electrical system, distributing electricity to different circuits in your home or business. In recent years, the technology behind consumer units has evolved significantly, offering enhanced safety, efficiency, and functionality. Upgrading an outdated consumer unit can bring a range of advantages, making it a wise investment for both homes and businesses. 1. Improved Safety Safety is the primary reason for upgrading a consumer unit, particularly if the existing one is old or faulty. Modern consumer units are fitted with Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs), which provide enhanced protection against electrical faults. RCD Protection: RCDs detect imbalances in the electrical current, which may indicate a fault such as a person coming into contact with live wires. They can cut off the electricity supply in milliseconds, reducing the risk of electric shock and preventing electrical fires. MCBs and Surge Protection: MCBs automatically disconnect circuits if they detect overloads or short circuits, helping to prevent overheating, which can lead to fires. Many modern units also include surge protection devices, shielding your home or business from power surges caused by external factors like lightning strikes. Upgrading to a modern consumer unit greatly reduces the risks associated with older, less sophisticated fuse boxes. 2. Compliance with Current Regulations Electrical standards in the UK, including those governed by the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), have become more stringent over time. If your current consumer unit does not comply with these latest standards, you could be at risk of legal and insurance complications, especially if you're a landlord or run a business. Upgrading your consumer unit ensures that your electrical installation is in line with these regulations, which is not only important for safety but also a legal requirement in some cases. For businesses, this helps to meet health and safety obligations, ensuring a safer environment for employees, customers, and visitors. 3. Increased Capacity for Modern Electrical Demands Over the last few decades, the number of electrical appliances used in homes and businesses has increased dramatically. Older consumer units are often not designed to handle the high demand of today’s electrical devices, leading to frequent tripping or even failure of circuits. Upgrading your consumer unit ensures you have enough circuits to support modern electrical usage. This is particularly important if you're planning to add new appliances, renovate your property, or install high-energy devices like electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, or air conditioning units. For businesses, upgrading allows for greater flexibility when expanding or modernising operations, ensuring your electrical infrastructure can keep up with growing energy demands. 4. Enhanced Energy Efficiency Modern consumer units offer better control over your electrical system, allowing for more efficient use of power. With separate circuits for different areas or functions, it becomes easier to monitor and manage energy consumption. Some advanced systems can even provide energy usage data, helping homes and businesses identify areas where they could save on electricity. For businesses, this can translate into significant cost savings, as more efficient electrical systems reduce energy waste, helping to lower electricity bills. 5. Peace of Mind Knowing that your home or business has a modern, reliable, and safe consumer unit brings significant peace of mind. The likelihood of electrical faults, which can lead to costly damages or downtime, is greatly reduced. In the case of businesses, this can prevent operational disruptions, and for homes, it ensures that your family is living in a safer environment. Landlords can also rest assured that upgrading to a new consumer unit can prevent potential legal issues if a tenant suffers an injury or damage due to an outdated electrical system. It can also make your property more attractive to prospective tenants by highlighting that the electrics are up to modern safety standards. 6. Boosts Property Value Upgrading your consumer unit can increase the value of your property. Whether you’re selling a home or business premises, having an up-to-date electrical system is a key selling point. Prospective buyers are often more likely to invest in properties that have modern electrical infrastructure, as it reduces the likelihood of expensive repairs or upgrades in the near future. In many cases, mortgage lenders and surveyors will also look at the condition of the electrical system when assessing a property. Having a modern consumer unit can ease the process of selling or remortgaging a property. 7. Facilitates Future Expansions and Upgrades A new consumer unit allows for future expansions, such as additional circuits or the integration of smart home or business technologies. If you’re considering installing solar panels, battery storage systems, or other advanced technologies, a modern consumer unit can support these upgrades without the need for major rewiring. This future-proofing element ensures that your electrical system remains flexible and adaptable as your needs evolve, whether in a domestic or commercial setting. Upgrading the consumer unit in your home or business is an investment that offers a wide range of benefits. From enhanced safety and compliance with the latest regulations to greater capacity and improved energy efficiency, a modern consumer unit ensures your electrical system is fit for today’s demands and ready for future advancements. For homeowners, this upgrade increases safety, comfort, and peace of mind, while also potentially boosting property value. For businesses, it minimises the risk of electrical failures, reduces energy costs, and ensures compliance with legal standards, helping to create a safer and more efficient environment for operations. In both cases, a consumer unit upgrade is a practical, forward-thinking decision that delivers long-term value. The team at Imperial Electrical Solutions Ltd have been upgrading consumer units in Bracknell and throughout Berkshire for the last 7 years, helping homeowners and businesses to ensure the safety of their electrical installations.
